Happy New Year !!!
“New Year’s Day: Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual” – Mark Twain
Are Mark Twain's words full of wisdom? Let's prove him wrong. Given it is always a challenge to find a treadmill at the gym in January, I see HEALTH and self-care at the top of many New Years resolutions lists. We often tackle our vices with vigor and good intentions, but they often fall by the wayside by February. A tactic for me this year has been to make mini-resolutions all year long and feel a twinkle of gratification as I succeed in my goal. Those warm fuzzy feelings of accomplishment can ride high and keep you motivated. My favorite is "I will set a positive intention when I open my eyes in the morning and feed off that when the day gets chaotic." Setting positive intentions has become a habit and I give myself a nudge if I forget. It clears the cobwebs of slumber and starts the day with hope. I encourage you to create a positive intention in the morning, before you rocket launch out of bed and hit the ground running.
If the grand plan from your New Years toast is to "get in shape," then start your day with the positive intention to park in a remote space and walk, take the stairs, get out in nature on work breaks. MOVE MOVE MOVE! Gym memberships are great if you use them, but the best tactic is to set a daily intention to take one little step in your "getting in shape" goal. Through movement, we find health.... our bodies awaken, our spirits soar, and our minds find peace. Listen to music and tap to the beat, shimmy through the bustling crowd, tight your abs at a traffic light. Body awareness will reinforce your desire to create changes within, so tune into the joys and wonder of discovering the NEW YOU!
A toast to 2010... Here's to setting positive intentions to keep your life fresh, your spirit bubbly, and your mind creative!
Blessings! D
