Nia Fusion Fitness- Finding the Joy of Movement

Nia is a Body-Mind-Spirit fitness and lifestyle practice. Through expressive movement-The Body’s Way- Nia empowers people to achieve physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

What is Nia?

Nia encourages the Joy of Movement and draws inspiration from the stillness and concentration of Tai Chi, the dynamic poses of Yoga, the explosive power of the Martial Arts, and the grace and spontaneity of modern and ethnic dance. It is dynamic fusion fitness for total body conditioning and personal growth benefits.

Why is it called Nia?
When Nia was first developed in 1983 by Debbie Rosas and Carlos Rosas in 1983, "Nia" was an acronym for "non-impact aerobics." Today, Nia stands for neuromuscular integrative actions~ the mind and body working together.  The word "nia" in Swahili means "with purpose", so Nia also means "moving with purpose."

What are the benefits of Nia?
Nia focuses on enhancing flexibility, agility, mobility, strength, and stability. Because three levels of movement are demonstrated, Nia is self-guided to create a healing relationship with the body and is adaptable and safe for all fitness levels from beginners with tight muscles to highly- fit athletes. Nia teaches you how to listen to the inner wisdom of your body and tune into awareness of your movements to discover a joyful, positive, and invigorating experience.

Who can do Nia?
Nia is designed for everyone... from children to elderly, all levels and ages.  Because you learn to tune into your body through 3 fitness levels, anyone can experience the joy of movement and promote healing, flexibility, agility, mobility, stability, and strength.
